Day 49: The ornithopter bursts into flames when its fire core explodes during the crash. Trapped inside, Never and Nai desperately try to stifle the growing flames with a tarp. Whitechapel escapes the wreck through the cockpit hatch. He wounds an approaching reaver at the barn door but is slashed wickedly across the face for his trouble. With the fire marginally under control, Nai uses the hatch to take a position outside the wreck as Never uses the melta-ray to breach the jammed door. As Whitechapel is forced to retreat under the broken wing on the ornithopter reality warping as the Pale Death writhes through his body, Nai holds off the reavers, killing one and wounding others. Never dons Raven’s Wings and emerges finishing off a wounded reaver with a black rifle. With the reavers withdrawing, Whitechapel and Nai secure the Manticore’s spirit engine while Never takes flight. Whitechapel and Nai flee the burning barn and lug the spirit engine into the alleys across the street. Never swoops towards the dark ship lurking over the town. Spotted, he still manages to land on top of the reaver assault ship and enters through the top hatch where he is immediately captured by the dark walker, Hexerai Xhil. On his honor, Never gets Whitehcapel and Nai to stand down and surrender. They are brought before the dread lady, Syrr Sai, who commands the reavers from House Bellamy. There, they bind themselves in service to abate the destruction of Fortune’s Bluff.
